Gifts from Above

I was trying to find a new book to read on my Kindle last night.  I just wanted to read something light.  Book clubs seem to want to read sad and deep books, and though I know there are some exceptional books written out there, certainly written better than I can write; but in high times of stress, I wanted to read something light and loving.

So, I searched for Debbie Macomber; as I love her light and cheery books.  I haven’t read her in awhile.  The first book that came up on her list was “God’s Guest List.”   I didn’t even know she wrote books other than the novels I love that she writes.

There are no coincidences  in my life!  I can’t say how many people come into my life at just the right time and for all the right reasons.  This book is exactly what I needed to read at this moment in time.  I just never thought of these connections as gifts from God, but who else would send them to me?

I have so many things coming together all at once.  And none of it would be possible without all of these amazing people coming into my life!  And because of these gifts, my dream of sharing my stories will hopefully inspire and enrich others!  Anything is possible if you are coming from that deep place in your heart!

Have a great day!  I hope you connect with someone today, and know that that person is a gift!

Spring is springing somewhere!

Mr. Flicker was at it again this morning rattling on the chimney! I sure hope he finds his mate soon!  My husband thought the sound was coming from the furnace room and that our hot water tank was on the fritz again!  I don’t know if you’ve ever seen a “Common Flicker”  but they have the funniest markings on them!  They are part of the

woodpecker family and when they fly it looks like a piece of cotton is stuck on their behind!!! LOL! A must see if you get the chance!

Anyway, winter is still hanging on to us with a vengence and as you can tell I’m sooooo needing some warmth and sunshine!

Here’s to those who are experiencing the spring and sunshine!

Helicopter parents!

I was thinking, as I watched my 16 year old Jenn race up the street, hair wet and clipped on her head; (her late shower this morning) to catch the school bus she almost missed!  Because she was up all night trying to finish the homework she procrastinated on again!  How do you instill the desire in kids today to strive and succeed on their own merits when we– the “Helicopter parents” give them everything before they’re even 12!  Every trip imaginable; every sport, music lesson social club possible!  And plan out their futures so we can stand at a cocktail party and brag about all of our achievements we’ve accomplished through our kids!!!!  I mean really!  Was our childhood so bad!  Where the greatest thing we received was a bicycle that wasn’t a hand-me down!  We were driven from within!  We wanted to get ahead and see the world because we didn’t have everything handed to us and wanted to see more than the small towns we grew up in!  I can say with a certainty that we are doing our children a great dis-service by giving them everything and telling them everything they should do and be!  I didn’t say it was easy though.  Pulling back from our kids might be the most difficult thing we do.  Watching them fall and screw up is extremely difficult, but I believe adversity does breed success!  Not in all children but some!  We must face the fact that we most likely won’t have rocket scientists for children!

So, the advice for today:   Back off and let our children be who they’re going to be!

Have a great day!

Morning Blog

Well someone thinks it’s spring around here!  A common flicker has been rat-a-tat-tatting on the metal of our roof to attract a female mate!  Our cats below wait by the fireplace grate in the hopes he might fall down the chimney!!!  The chick-a-dees are busy zipping between the sleeping Japanese Liliac and the bird feeder busily grabbing seeds!  They think it’s spring but I sure don’t feel it!  How is it that a chick-a-dee can hold that tiny seed on a branch, peck out that little morsal of food and not drop it?  And do it 10 more times!  If I were a chick-a-dee I think I’d keep grabbing the seeds and stock pile them somewhere safe; then sit down and pig out!!!

Anyway, Happy Spring to those in the east who are really feeling it!
